Today's lesson is a quick overview of women in religion. The literacy skill we are using is identifying main idea & details. Agenda

We had an abbreviated schedule for our classes today. We played a review game which served as an informal assessment for me to learn which vocabulary terms students know best and which ones I may need to revisit! For this activity, you will need:
We played with 3 rounds. Each round gets progressively harder, and each question becomes worth more points.

This lesson talks more broadly about sexuality and society's awkwardness with sex as a topic. We use a chunk & summarize reading comprehension strategy to read an article about sex positive parenting. Agenda

The start of this lesson wraps up the class stations from the last lesson, and begins a 2-day look at sexuality. Today is about sexual orientation, while tomorrow's lesson will be about society's thoughts on sexuality, generally. To build ELA skills, students will identify literary techniques in the poem, adding them to the existing lists in their notebooks. Agenda

Due to room changes today and the resulting time crunch, the homework was not introduced properly. So, tonight's homework assignment is to watch the short film: Love is All You Need? (You can click on the picture on the left to get to the YouTube link for this video. After you watch it, please fill out the 2 boxes on the worksheet (main idea and thoughts/connections). Here are all the other videos I spoke about today, but we were not able to watch:
This is the video of Thomas Hill's performance of his poem: This lesson contains a lot of information about class. I originally wanted to take 2 days to discuss class, but I chose to introduce the class to several thoughts and data in one period. Introducing so much new material limits the amount of time for discussing and reflecting on the ideas as a class, but I want to see how they reflect on their own over night (in completing the connections column and - hopefully - discussing what they learned with friends and family!) Lesson Reflections
This lesson was initially intended for students to share their pieces, but many students did not bring a draft to school today. It made more sense to me to take students through the whole writing process, and Monday everyone will share as part of the "publishing" step. Agenda
