This year, the diagnostic assessment for students consisted of 2 parts: discussion & writing. The first day included a short reading (The Drawbridge) followed by a discussion circle, the protocol for which I found in this amazing book, recommended by the Morningside Center. The second day, students were asked to respond in writing to this prompt. (Note: Up until this lesson, we have been working on getting students on Google Classroom and becoming familiar with the Google apps - docs, drive, email). Reflections:

Due to this year's unique schedules, today was the first full day I met with all of my classes. We held class using a circle protocol, often used in restorative justice practice. I decided I would use circles once a week during the school year after attending a week-long Professional Development this summer hosted by the Morningside Center. Their website has great resources! Agenda: This lesson is slightly adapted from Morningside's (here)
