I just finished reading a wonderful book published by Rethinking Schools, called Reading, Writing, and Rising Up by Linda Christensen. It mirrors many of the topics I want to cover and offers explicit assignments, teacher strategies, and several student models. Below, I outline some of the ideas I feel will fit best in my course. However, this is just a quick overview. I highly recommend purchasing this book, as it includes many concrete ideas and thoughtful reflections on teaching literacy through social justice.
